Spoiled Rotman: Happy Halloween!

With Halloween being the day after we closed on the house, we weren't too worked up about Anna having a spectacular Halloween experience. That, and she is 1.5. Last year we bought her a Carter's ladybug costume on clearance... for the few weeks before Halloween I showed her the costume, and she would say, "bug?". I would ask if she wanted to wear it (or just try to put it on her) and she would say, "no, no, no". So, we weren't expecting much when it came to the actual day, considering we couldn't even get her in a ladybug costume.

Gigi had found an Elmo costume at a thrift store we frequent near the lake house for $2.50. We figured since it was 2T and only $2.50, if she wouldn't wear it this year we could get her into it next year. I did a practice round the morning of Halloween, and she didn't do terrible but was very confused. After nap, she was not super excited about being in the costume, but we whisked her outside and she got over it.

Her first trick-or-treating experience followed, at "Bar-Bar's" house. Barbara is our long time next door neighbor in Greensboro, and Anna and Gigi visit with Bar-Bar a lot when Anna is around. Anna obviously felt comfortable at Barbara's, because when she came to the door, Anna just went right inside her house. Barbara has a dog, Spud, who was locked up in a room so he wouldn't scare trick-or-treaters, and Anna could not get over why Spud was locked behind the glass door and no adult was letting him out!

We then took Anna to a "Trunk or Treat" at church so that she could see other kids in costumes. She had a great time, and actually did pretty well. She would take candy from some of the nicer looking people, she did not like the scary ones, and cried at the one teenage boy she saw. My old Bible study leader then gave her a chocolate frosted doughnut, which was the extent of the treats she received... and Mommy finished most of it :).
